South Korea was never high on my wish list of countries to visit, but since Leigh & Josh produced my first grandchild, Gideon John there in October, it suddenly became a priority. It is a hugely successful economy for many reasons, but one of them is that they consume what they produce. If bananas are not in season, most folks will buy what is in season and what is grown in their own communities rather than buy very expensive bananas imported from Chile or somewhere. They buy the cars they produce and they are good cars. You can get a Lexus or a Beemer if you really need to make a statement, but import duties are so high that very few people do. They are huge producers of electronic commodities (Samsung, LG, etc.) and also high fashion clothing. They manufacture pretty much everything and their policy works. They have learned what we in the US have obviously long forgotten. Anyway, here are some images from my time here.
